Disney's The Tigger Movie on Blu-ray

I unapologetically admit, I have for most of my life, for whatever reason, been a huge fan of Winnie The Pooh. I was actually excited to get the opportunity to review the new release of Disney’s The Tigger Movie on Blu-ray DVD. As is the norm with most Disney products, there is an exceptional product made available for the consumer. The imagery and sound is spectacular, and even if owning this film in standard DVD, one can’t go wrong with the purchase of the Blu-ray version if they have a high definition television. One of the excellent features with the Blu-ray is not only the special features, which are refreshing, educational, and enjoyable, but also the sound quality. In a seemingly hand drawn format, the visual images are are stunning and the story is as good as this fan could have wanted. While Pooh is the star of the Winnie The Pooh franchise, there is enough of the other characters to keep all the fans of Pooh happy. I loved them all, their portrayal, and story. There is very little to be critical of this spectacular feature.

The premise of The Tigger Movie centers on Tigger accepting himself and the circumstances he is in as opposed to the images that often hurt, even if brought on by ones self. Unfortunately, Tigger is a representation of what many experience. It is hard for many. In this premise, I think of the command in my faith that dictates that we love others as much as we love ourselves. Many will understand that it is often difficult to love ourselves, thus we have a hard time loving others. Disney has produced an extremely spiritual concept here that is that we can often learn to love ourselves by the recognition of the fact that others love us, despite our differences. Unfortunately, many, like Tigger have a hard time understanding this. It is through the love of others thought that Tigger sees himself in a different light. I was once told by a friend, while we were filming an educational video documentary for The Sandoz Corporation that it was as others believed in this one person, that she begin to believe in herself. That is how it is not just for Tigger but many of us. As we love others, they experience the love and thus, feel loved, making it possible for them to love others not just more, but more perfectly. I loved this movie for that reason. For fans of Pooh, you can’t go wrong here; this is one to be enjoyed by not just the children, but by all ages. I know I did and this one will be on my must watch list, many more times in the future.

Disney's :Lady and The Tramp 2, Scamps Adventure on Blu-ray

Disney has a reputation of making classic animation. Many over the years have seen the wonderful animated classic, Lady and The Tramp. Now on Blu-ray is the follow-up sequel to the story, Lady and The Tramp 2. This wonderful little gem, like most Disney DVD’s exudes excellence. From the animation to the quality of sound and excellent high definition transfer, Disney continues to work its magic. Also included in this wonderful little film is some nice special features that brings out some of the old footage from the vaults explaining some of the workings on the original. Seeing some of that old footage with Walt Disney himself is quite nice.

Lady and The Tramp 2 also addresses a primary point regarding family, and in that, the growth and maturity of children. We see Scamp, the son of Lady & The Tramp venture out on his own, trying to find his own way. Along the way, he finds as many children do, that the parents, as imperfect as they often are, still have the best interest of their children in mind. That isn’t to say there aren’t things to learn on the journey to independence, but it is to say that as is often the case, an appreciation of ones parents and what they have for their children, or as in this case, pups, is in the best interest of the child or pup, and with an amount of extreme love for the child. I appreciated the version of the program because we don’t see the parents as perfect, few of us in reality are, but we do see a love and a family that despite difficulties will come back together with a better understanding for each other. Just as in real life, there are lessons to learn, thankfully, Disney still understands not only the struggles of families, but the needs of families, especially when it comes to loving and being there for each other.

The Reality of Reality TV

Please make sure to see the other 2 articles in this series, both interviews with Dave Redmon from Ice Road Truckers and Worlds Most Dangerous Highways and Christa Stephens and Dennis Croft from Small Town Security.  Links at the conclusion of the article.

“Reality Television, I am so tired of it, can’t the networks come up with something new?” This quote or something similar is something I often hear. Of course the networks provides programming that gets ratings, if they continue to provide “Reality” television it is because they have the viewers to support the programming and they are making money. I am smart enough to know, that it isn’t about a moral conscious, it is to most of these companies, about making profits. I will admit, in my own journey of watching television, I have found myself enjoying “Reality Television.” I still think an episode from Deadliest Catch where one of the fishing boat captains dies may be one of the most memorable seasons, and episodes ever aired on television. The reality for me though is the more I have watched “Reality” programming, the more I have questioned the reality. It has caused me to question programs like Big Brother, Ice Road Truckers and numerous others. What I am seeing, despite the concept of reality being promoted is more scripted than real. Are the television stations lying to me regarding their programming, or am I just being foolish to expect reality in “Reality” television?

Whether trying to cover up an alleged Rape on MTV’s Real World, to suicides involving participants from such shows as Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares and Megan Wants a Millionaire, to murder and attempted murder of guests on The Jenny Jones Show and The Jerry Springer Show and more, one has to wonder about those putting out these shows. While the programs have been careful to prevent such horrific events, the reality is, “Reality Television” has had an impact on those participating on the shows. Despite the horrors in the past, many horrors and controversies continue, including now controversy among the Hutterites from a program shown on A&E. Hutterites from King Colony Ranch, depicted in the series, has taken action and requested that A&E never air again the episodes from the season, stating that many of the scenes “were scripted.” This isn’t the first time allegations like this have been made about “Reality Television.” It was my own viewing of the program Ice Road Truckers, Season 5 featuring as one of the drivers, David C. Redmon that led me to this conclusion. As I watched the show I noted in my review that much of what I was seeing on screen didn’t make sense. I had also noted similar scenario’s on programs like Big Brother. I decided to make contact with one of the apparent scapegoats on Ice Road Truckers Dave Redmon to ask him about the show.

If ever looking for honesty, to the point of certainly creating controversy, speak to someone like Dave Redmon. It was clear from the get go of Redmon’s claims of productions scripting, favoritism, plans to get him fired without his knowledge in the 4th episode before the show even started, even “trying to get someone killed.” Redmon does this plus provided negative images on other members of the show for their actions and more. If one never thought grudges and hard feelings didn’t go beyond the programs end they would definitely seem to be wrong in the case of Dave Redmon. All of that said though, if what he says is true, and there is no reason to doubt it, there could be good reason for actions and attitudes like his.

Redmon participated in three programs for The History Channel, IRT’s Most Dangerous Highways (2 Seasons) and Ice Road Truckers Season 5. Redmon claims that the differences between the three shows are like night and day. It is one of the things that give credibility to his story. If he were bashing all programs, all cast members, one would have to wonder if the issue isn’t Dave Redmon. From communicatin with him, it is possible to conclude that while Redmon may be one who speaks his mind, he does so with a sense and mannerism that gives reason to believe he was deeply mislead and hurt by the actions on the programs, especially when realizing that as a real life individual, needing to go back to a real life job, playing with the lives of its characters by scripting negative impressions of some of them is not of any value.

One of the things that come to mind here is not just the initial impressions which are molded not so much by the individuals on screen as those behind the camera and editing booth. The script writers, producers, directors, editors and so forth determine what we see, and how we see it. Anyone involved in film knows of the impact of these individuals. A film crew can dramatically influence a persons image, whether an actor, or a person thinking that they are going to be fairly represented. Unfortunately, we the viewer are often duped to believe what we see, we even cast judgment not on reality but on perceived reality which is a totally different thing. Most religious groups, certainly Christianity are founded on the concept that each person is important in the eyes of God, in fact, in Christianity, so important that God would send his son to die for the individual because God values each person so much. Yet, one of the obvious dangers of “Reality Television” is that we are cast into a system where we are systematically encouraged to make judgments not on things that are real, but on things that are presented as real. One has to wonder, just as advertisers know that repeated showings of their commercials cause us to react to their products in a certain way, is it possible that the repeated showings of real people, non actors, presented in the ways the production companies want those people to be presented for better ratings, can in effect, also impact how we see others, whether a Dave Redmon, or in more general terms, a truck driver, secretary, cocktail waitress and you can throw in any other group of people. If the answer to that is yes, then we have to question what role we play as viewers in supporting programs that often times, have dramatic and negative impacts on some of these people.

Fortunately, with all of the scripting that is going on in “Reality Television,” some of the horror stories that are being presented, we are seeing new programs that are looked at as more of a docudrama than they are a “Reality” show. One such show receiving a lot of attention is AMC’s Small Town Security. The show features a unique and different cast. Non actors which have many in the press singing high praise up to this point for the show. I recently had the opportunity to speak with Christa Stephens and Dennis Croft of the show. Christa is the secretary in the office of JJK Security & Investigations in Ringgold Georgia, just outside of Chattanooga Tennessee. Dennis is a transgendered male who is known as Lieutenant and is the person responsibility of the security operations of JJK Security Agency which employees between 60 and 70 security guards for services of various types in the area.

The uniqueness of this program is the characters in the show. They are all unique, all different, and all, unscripted. This unique group is led by Chief, Joan Koplan. Joan is a character in her own right along with a hoarder for a husband who also tolerates the crush and love of his wife from his Chief of Security, a transgendered male, Dennis Croft. One of the primary differences with this show is the willingness of the production crew to let the cameras roll and use only what they capture. The cast assured me there is no scripting on the program, it is in fact, the real life realities, and despite how controversial and different they may be, that gives credibility and intrigue to this show for the viewer.

Small Town Security has received a great deal of praise and criticism for its subject matter and the people in the show. Unfortunately many of those being critical seem to be residents of the area. There is a fear the show will portrays a negative image of Southerners, specifically those of Ringgold Georgia, a border town to Chattanooga Tennessee. As one living in the Midwest, originally from East Tennessee, I don’t find that perspective to be true. The show instead shows the uniqueness’s and differences of some people. It also shows the absurdity of others, yet, in that presentation, we see hope, promise and even moments where we are moved. Whether the willingness of a transgendered male coming out on local television or a man who is dealing with issues of hording who is making the effort to address needs in his life regarding hording we can find room to be impacted. If the viewer allows, there is room for hope, because we can see that in the imperfections and differences of those on screen, we can be inspired to be more. We can laugh along the way, although some of the activity is sophomoric at best, it is still funny, yet serious. Is it for everyone? Obviously there will be many offended by writing to much into the themes of the show but for many others, it will not only provide a good laugh, but a lesson in life on being yourself.

My faith tells me that God’s people, the world are made up of all kinds of people each with unique gifts and talents. I don’t believe any two of us are totally alike. It is refreshing to see a show that shows that it is okay to be who God made you to be. It is also disheartening to think that when dealing with some people, real people especially, that a production crew is molding and scripting others to be who they want them to be. I find one model refreshing and another repulsive. I would have personally expected more from The History Chanel in its programming, and the same could be said about any number of networks. On the flip, I can applaud AMC for getting it right, at least up to this point. I only hope they continue to get it right. I don’t have a problem with presenting the real lives of real people, in fact, there is more intrigue and better story when we the viewer, are allowed to see people as they really are. Is Dave Redmon come off as being a little upset, you bet he does, and frankly, I for one can’t blame him. On the other hand, despite the quirkiness can I appreciate the characters on Small Town Security, despite their believing and acting differently than I in many situations? You bet I can! Heck I may even have to admit, in many ways, I am just like them. Like Joan, I can laugh at a good bit of passing gas, but also like Dennis, I can also appreciate the difficulty and courage it takes to share something about yourself that others may not understand or appreciate. Now for me, that is reality, not some Joe Blow sitting in a production or editing booth turning me or representing me to be something other than who I really am. My only hope for Small Town Security is that AMC lets the cast continue being themselves. They frankly seem like too good a people to go messing their lives up. While there may be some in their community or around the world who don’t understand them, they, in the reality of at least this viewer, represent all of us, and in that, I can find value.

The Reality of Reality TV, Interview With Christa Stephens

Please make sure to see the article The Reality of Reality TV and interview with Dave Redmon from links at the bottom of the page, both a part of this particular series.

Mike Furches (MF): Christa & Dennis tell us some about who you are?

Christa Stephens (CS): My full name is Christine Antoinette Stephens. Ever since this 4th episode, everyone thinks my last name is Pista (laughter between us,) but it’s Christa Stephens and although my full name is Christine, I go by Christa. Do you want me to tell you my age and stuff?

MF: Nah, just tell us a little bit about what you do, what you do on the show and maybe a little bit about life before the show.

CS: Okay. Before I joined the scene here at JKK Security I was actually in school for Cosmetology and had just graduated. The guy called for Chief asking me to come be a secretary for her to help with the show. At the time we didn’t really know if it would happen or not but it was in the works. I still went on to get my Cosmetology license and what not. I did come here to work and I’ve been here now for about a year and a half. Like I said, I’m the secretary and pretty much most of my job title is to answer the phones, help out with billings and things like that. I also help keep the place clean whenever it’s not too bad in another bathroom. (laughter again, sounding like Chief also laughing in the background) That really kind of raps it up for what I do. (Christa is still laughing, her mannerisms here indicate how real she is, with her thick southern drawl she is friendly and giggly, but in a very pleasant way) We all just kind of joke around and what not.

MF: I appreciate that: Dennis, how about you?

Dennis Croft (DC): I’m the operations manager Mike. I control all of the operations of the security. I deal with the clients and the employees for training and placement for the officers and specific clients. I also make sure that everybody is doing their job properly.

MF: The article I am doing is titled; The ‘Reality’ of Reality Television. I have seen in a number of interviews and so forth where you guys don’t refer to Small Town Security as a Reality Show. How do you describe the show?

DC: A reality show?

CS: We describe it as a Dramity. It’s also been worded as a docudrama. Those are the two primary words to describe it, but I say it’s a Dramity a lot. I think we lose the word reality because in my personal opinion is if you see a lot of these reality shows and you can tell there having a fake fight. Their just horrible freaking actors! You know what I’m saying? With us, we’re real, 100%.

DC: Our show is unscripted and it’s a Dramity simply because there’s funny moments in life and there’s a lot of drama in life and you’re seeing that combination.

CS: Yeah!

MF: Was AMC the one that moved you in that direction or was that something you guys kind of insisted on yourself?

DC: You know what? We are who we are and we haven’t been altered in any way. What they are getting is us on a normal day in day to day life.

MF: What is it that makes Small Town Security different than other reality programs?

DC: You know as far as a docudrama, I don’t think this show or this type of show has ever existed in television history, other than possibly a documentary itself. It’s true to its description of animal behavior or something like that. We are basically a show where the cameras are watching the animals in their environment. (laughter) We just happen to be human. That’s pretty much it except we run a security company. The visuals are what they are and you are seeing our life in our environment.

CS: And the office! Dennis is very well spoken but I want to add that there is life outside the office. We do have a lot of security guards and it’s not play time. The Lieutenant runs as the operations manager, taking care of the security guards and what not. We have 60 plus guards so that is something I would kind of like to be known. That is, that when it comes time for work, we mean business. It’s not like that outside of the office.

MF: Your lives have to have changed since the program has started airing?

CS: No

MF: It hasn’t changed?

SC: No (laughter)

MF: So are people recognizing you in your travels or at all?

CS: Oh yeah! I mean as far as that goes we’re only 4 episodes in right now and we’re really just now getting our fan base. We’re on facebook and all, and Dennis and I have had a lot of people talk to us on there. Things are really picking up, but as far as us being us…, no, we’re going to be who we are and nothing has changed. People stop by here and some of them just want to turn around and leave and others come in and relax, and were just like, come on in, what’s up? We talk to them. In other words, we’re not turning into a bunch of snooties, or where we’re like better than you just because we’re on TV, if that’s what you mean by have we changed.

MF: While both of you have kind of answered this, but from what you’ve seen on screen, is what is being presented an accurate presentation of who the two of you really are?

DC: Yes

CS: Yes, 100%

MF: So the producers are doing a good job of making sure that you are edited, and represented in a fair and honest way?

DC: Yes, in matter of fact, I’m in awe of how condensed they have to make it with all of the material they did shoot, and then get the true essence out of each individual in putting it into your viewing eyes.

MF: That’s great to hear. Christa, I’ve seen every episode so far and in the last episode it explored your efforts to become a private investigator. How is that progressing and are you going to be content in being a secretary or will the show continue to show your efforts at being an investigator.

CS: I certainly want to pursue it but I’m going to primarily be in the office. Keith and I have discussed me and what I am doing, but again, I am primarily in the office. If a case comes up where a woman is needed that’s what my training is for. If we need a female for whatever reason to go out in the field and do the work, then I will be licensed and be able to do something.

MF: This is for the both of you, but it is evident that the office is a fun place to work, that you all get along, you care for each other. That is all clear from the representations we see portrayed on screen. The reality is you are a security company and there has to be some level of stress and difficulty. How do you handle that and will those types of things be shown on the show?

DC: While a lot has happened I don’t know much of it was shot and in those critical moments. As far as what is going to be used, I don’t know what’s going on with that. I guess I have a tendency of run and going out a little bold to take care of some business to help concentrate when things like that happen. I do have the tendency to do that, I have really been unaware of the camera’s following me.

CS: Same here. We have gotten accustomed to the camera’s being there. It’s like Mike said from the beginning. Mike being the producer, one of the main producers, ‘We’re flies on the wall. You go on about your business, do what you do, we’re a fly on the wall.’ None of us are camera shy, and really, we act like they’re not even there.

DC: We run around drunk sometimes. (laughter)

CS: Yeah, there are plenty of times that things aren’t all that clear in the office and we’ve taken out a camera man or two.

DC: Been there. (more laughter)

CS: Again, we are who we are and I believe they’ve done a wonderful job.

MF: The way I found out about the show is that I love Breaking Bad. I had seen all of the trailers and teasers for the show so I thought I would go ahead and watch this because there hasn’t been anything that like looks at a small town security office and it would be kind of cool to see. To be totally honest, for the first 20 minutes of the program I really didn’t know what to think. Then in that first episode there is a reveal or epiphany moment regarding you Dennis. Don’t take this wrong or let it get to your head, but I think that moment may have changed Reality Television as we have known it.

DC: I believe it.

MF: There has been a great deal of praise about that, about your willingness to come out in regards to being transgendered. Can you tell us some about that decision and that moment in the program?

DC: You know that was really a hard thing for me to do. I was okay to do it, but sitting there watching the television brought all of those feelings back. That, the decision making and how right it was for me. It was something I was willing to do because I knew it would be good for the show and that show is for Chief. So, I did it for Chief. I also know it’s going to help a lot of people.

MF: I am a person of faith, obviously I write for a web site called Hollywood Jesus, we are uniquely different, but what I would say to you is that my belief system says that each and every human being is personally loved by God. They are important and valuable in the eyes of God. I believe there will be many people who will come to the place where they will accept themselves and feel loved because of that moment. I would sincerely want you to know, thank you for being willing to do what you did because while it is obvious of your love and compassion for Chief, but I have no doubt that you have helped multitudes of others. I wanted to tell you that and it is something I normally wouldn’t do in an interview like this.

DC: You’re welcome.

MF: What is your primary hope for the show, Christa or Dennis either one? Regarding the program and your stories?

CS: I know that for me personally, I just want to make the people laugh. Chief does to, me and her are kind of on the same page. We’re the loud ones I guess. (laughter) You know, I just want to make the people laugh. I like playing pranks and stuff and laughter is good for you. You know, you only live once, so live. That what it’s about, I don’t care for these people that are talking crap about the show, me or whoever, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, that’s fine. For those that do like it, those that are saying like, it’s so funny, it’s so funny, that makes me feel good because as far as I’m concerned, I’m not showing off for the cameras or anything, that’s me! I just want everyone to like me for me. Enjoy the show, like you said it is not like any other show. It is real.

MF: Dennis, what about you?

DC: You know, every family, every business has individuals who are unique and particularly is an avenue to display to the world that you can be yourself, be professional, do a good job, and still be yourself and have fun and enjoy life. You have your problems, you have your good points, your fun times and things are outrageous sometimes. Our lives are outrageous sometimes; sometimes they’re very tense, sometimes they’re very upsetting. So this show kind of blends everything like that together. When it’s shown this way, I think that anybody and everybody can at some point relate to the show.

MF: Are lessons that society can learn from the show?

DC: Yes, if not lessons, at least discussion points for their lives.

MF: What would some of those be?

CS: Being true to yourself!

DC: Being who you are and not being afraid.

CS: Right! You know, a lot of people try to be someone that their not. You have certain people who act like their lives are perfect. I don’t care who you are, everyone, whether you’re married or not or what not you get in a fight with your spouse, you have your moments for this and that. It’s just that we’re willing to put our lives out there. It isn’t that we don’t care or nothing like that but the point I am getting at is that with us being together, we are like a family in a sense. We’re willing to put this on film and not really care about what people think. We just want people to learn from it. We want them to be like, it’s okay to come out and be someone, be who you are.

DC: I think I’ve said everything that it is for me.

MF: I’ll close it with this, I have seen the comments of some, but would say that you are who you are, and your willingness to encourage people to be who they are a very admirable thing. From my perspective, I don’t think you are an embarrassment at all to anyone. For those that need an encouragement to be who they are, you are an inspiration. I appreciate your willingness to take the time to me about your program.

CS: We appreciate you as well Mike.

DC: I feel sorry for the ones that are embarrassed!

MF: Me as well Dennis

DC: It’s just that they are hiding their own self; they’re not even seeing who they are. They’re denying even who they are. They’re not only putting themselves in a box, they’re putting themselves in a mental cage.

MF: Well it will be kind of nice for some of those folks to see an article written by an outsider that sees the benefits of the show. Maybe they will see that not all of the people from across the country see the show the way some people think they do.

If ever in the area I would love to visit, to stop by and say hey. It would be great to meet you in person. Thanks again for the time, I really appreciate it. Now in that you deal in security services, stay safe.

DC: Thanks to you very very much and we look forward to seeing you if you make it down this way.

The Reality of Reality TV, Interview with Dave Redmon from Ice Road Truckers and Worlds Most Dangerous Highways

Please make sure to read the article The Reality of Reality TV and the interview with some of the cast from Small Town Security in the other 2 articles related to this series.  The links are at the bottom of the page.

Mike Furches (MF): Can you tell us some about Dave Redmon?

Dave Redmon (DR): I live in a small town in Alabama outside Birmingham, was in the army in the early 80's after H.S I work as a service tech until I got old enough to drive Semi's. I went to driving school at 20 years of age even though I had experience driving in the army back then it was not verifiable. After school I bought my first truck in 1987 and even had my own repair shop while driving.

MF: Can you share some about how you became involved with the shows that aired on The History Channel?

DR: I was found on Youtube. They had been watching me for some time and I posted an explosive video about a company I was leased to and the same weekend I was contacted for season 1 of deadliest roads.

MF: What were your experiences with the three shows was one any different than the other, primarily in the way they were produced and the stories presented?

DR: As for the 3 shows they were so different it was unreal. When I got to India I met my field producer at the Deli airport and we were filming 10 minutes off the plane. I had my field producer and several camera and AP's and a driver. They treated me great! I never had any trouble.

Now when I got to Alaska it was like a whole new world, they played like they were going to make you look great then when you back was turned, I had one guy there that treated me right and we got along great. It was so bad I would not let my field prod ride with me any more so the camera guy did his job. This was a week or so before the taped firing.

In Bolivia all I can say is they were trying to get someone killed. After me and Rick left they started showing Lisa better roads to drive, not as bad as the others had to drive. Rick left because of the fact that Lisa did not want to drive the bad roads so she did not have to. I left because I got deathly sick and was not getting better (Parasite).

MF: Season 5 of IRT is where it seems much of the controversy has come about; tell us about your thoughts on Season 5 of IRT?

DR: Season 5 was… I was there to do a job but no one would let me do it from Tony to Phil to Lane. It was like I was not wanted there and I found out later that I was scripted to be fired 4 weeks in yet I made it 7 weeks until they fired me. I never got a ticket, had an accident, or run into the ditch and I delivered every load they gave me. Even after I was fired I stayed and finished filming. The F150 truck scene was 2 weeks after I was fired and I drove Phil’s truck the day before I left for aerial shots. As for scripting, they have shots they need to get on a daily basis and a good Field Producer can get those and you not know it, but in Alaska the crew was all young and had no experience and they had no clue and wanted to put their own spin on things and it just did not work. They love to cut and paste, if you hear someone talking and you did not see them say it, it did not happen then. There are wild lines that we sat in the truck several times throughout the show and repeat these lines over and over just for the audio.

I was treated unfairly For sure! Watch the India show then watch the AK show, what do you think? They took everything I did wrong and used it against me 10 fold in Alaska.

MF: It seems as if the company Carlile had a favorite in Tony as a driver, can you tell us some about your experiences of working with him?

DR: Tony and his mother work at Carlile. Harry is his golfing buddy, in any co you have a chain of command from dispatch to mgrs. Tony never works that way he goes strait to Harry if he has a problem and even slipped on the show. Lisa and him where getting heavy haul shacks and Tony said "I talked to Harry if you do this right you'll get H/H" they have a H/H supervisor that makes those choices.

MF: The show also clearly showed that he had a tendency of showing up late, was this true of him?

DR: Tony late? He was late everyday! Production called it "Tony Time," he would keep us for hrs waiting for him. He drunk dialed me once at 4 am and came to work 6 hours later. I said something about it yet it was overlooked.

I spoke up about him several times to a deaf ear. He is the company favorite so he does no wrong. He nearly got killed in an accident 2 weeks before we met yet he was allowed to go out with me? Unheard of in the trucking industry.

MF: What are your thoughts on the others in the show you have either worked with or had experiences with in the past?

DR: I worked with Lisa and Rick in India and thought they were genuine. I was wrong; Lisa is so far from that I can’t explain. Rick is genuine and we worked together well. I still talk to him on the phone from time to time. Lisa on the other hand is a user she will like you till she gets what she wants then she's done. Rick and I watched her back in India yet when I get to Alaska she won’t give me the time of day. Then when we got to Bolivia she was a TOTAL Control freak and they show it on the show that's why she quit.

MF: How much is the real Dave Redmon like the person shown on screen in Season 5?

DR: On season 5 they did their best to make me look stupid! They never showed anything good I did and I didn’t know it until the show came out. They were editing season 5 while we were in Bolivia. Had I known what they were doing I would never have gone to Bolivia.

MF: What do you wish you knew then that you know now before entering into a program like this?

DR: If I would have known how they like to mess with peoples reputations and lively hoods I would have never have gone on the show.

MF: I know you like motorcycling tell me about your bike and why you like it?

DR: Sold my Motor Cycle last year. It was a Harley Davidson softail duce. I loved getting out to ride but I broke my back in India so it had to go.

MF: Also a thing I think people forget about is that you are a real trucker, what is it about trucking you like, or dislike?

DR: A lot of people forget when seeing us on TV we are real people that have real jobs to go back to. The thing I love is being on my own and the thing I hate is how drivers are looked down on.

MF: What would you want people to know about the real David C. Redmon?

DR: I’m a real human being, been married to the same girl for 13 years , and I’m the guy that gives the shirt off my back to help people and believe nothing you see on the reality shows..

MF: Another more serious question, and I have to ask, would you do the show again if they asked and what are your plans for the future?

DR: NEVER!!! I will not ever do this stupid mistake again.

MF: If there is a life lesson in all of this for people to learn, what do you think it is?

DR: The life lesson is never put your reputation in the hand of production companies like Original Productions without a serious contract because you will get used and they will be the ones cashing in. I did these shows with a broken back (I broke it on the show) a torn rotator cuff, bad knee, and a blown disc in my neck. Do you think they cared? No! I have not worked since I left Bolivia and have had 5 operations to fix these things including the back which I broke on their show. Do you think it was worth it?

Dexter Season 6 on Blu-Ray

Over the last 6 or so years I haven’t tried to hide the fact that Dexter is one of my top 2 or 3 programs on television. I can’t ever say what my favorite is because it changes from day to day but I can say, likely more often than not, this soap opera of a serial killer who doubles as a blood splatter specialists for the Miami Metro Police Department is more often than not, #1 on my list. I have always enjoyed the dichotomy of not knowing how to feel about this serial killer. Does one cheer for him, feel sorry for him, hate him, what? I have to admit, I have quit trying to figure out how to feel about Dexter and instead watch the show for the marvelous components of the show, from the opening credits until the closing credits, there is excellent writing, thought provoking scripts and ingenious plots along the way. Throw in some adult content and thought provoking and changing characters and you have the formula for one heck of a television show.

One of the things I have appreciated about Dexter is its willingness to address taboo subjects. I appreciate that because so many programs in the past have stayed away from the taboos, even though those taboos occur in real life. This season is no different but the show addresses a topic many may have some issue with. The primary topic of discussion this season is the issue of faith. Even the packaging of the DVD has Dexter with angel wings and he is called “The Avenging Angel” on the back of the product where he is stretched out as a crucified savior.

From the opening episode in season six we see the development of the plot line in the show that lasts through all 12 episodes. As the characters are developed we see Dexter getting used to his life without having killed anyone as of recent. As the story develops we also see him and the rest of the Miami Metro investigating a murder that has a number of strange religious references. This irony of this comes to a head when he has a confrontation with one of his victims about a tattoo of Jesus he has. As the story develops we see serial murderers by others that are based on the book of Revelation in the Bible. This peaks Dexter’s interest in religion as the story develops. Episode two takes on a unique twist that lasts for the duration of the show. As Dexter investigates the murders intended to rush in the apocalypse he runs into characters that challenges him in his faith concepts, primarily, Brother Sam, a devout Christian. Initially I didn’t know how to take Brother Sam or his role in the show. It has been my experience in the past that characters like this are there to give a negative image of people of faith. Without giving too much away, I will say, Brother Sam was a wonderful surprise. His character was devout, sincere and one who clearly shared his faith in love and compassion, with all people, including, Dexter. He is one of the best images presented in any program I have seen of a loving, caring Christian.

Throughout the season, while there are all of the murders, twists, turns and more, including the search for serial killers basing their murders on what they think will usher in the return of Christ. In these killers we see a Christian many would consider evil. They are nothing like the character Brother Sam. They are the extremist we sometimes see displayed and exemplified in the news who take religious delusions to the extreme. In the investigation and involvement with these two groups we see Dexter’s struggle with, even search for, the issue of faith, specific to the person of Jesus Christ.

I don’t see Dexter as a Christian program in any way, but amazingly, this may be one of the most spiritual television programs throughout the season ever aired. It is a modern day parable, complete with the search for God. It is as spiritual as anything seen on television in sometime, certainly on programming not intended to be “Christian.” I appreciated it because in some ways, it causes one to think of what is, and is not, “Christian.” If presenting a character that is genuine in their faith, which has gone through dramatic changes in their own life, is Christian, it doesn’t get much more Christian than this. If having language, nudity, sexual activity, and gruesome murders in it prevents it from being Christian, it clearly isn’t Christian. None of that takes away from the strong spiritual emphasis and questions asked that is appropriate for either a person of faith, or one seeking spiritual truth. There aren’t any guarantees that all ends up well, but it is real in how it is portrayed and the thing I like best is it leaves the challenges in the thought process, as good if not better than any other season off Dexter up to this point. The viewer is left with the challenge in thinking about a person’s ability to change, even giving some hope for Dexter.

I love my Blu-ray player, I love the digital quality on its picture and the wonderful sound quality. In those regards this DVD set doesn’t disappoint, in another regard though, it is a huge disappointment. Unless you have your Blu-ray player hooked up to the internet, which I don’t, you can’t view the special features on the DVD. Now my first impression with that is, that with my Wii and Roku Streaming Player hooked up to the net, I just don’t want to have to buy a DVD player with a wireless connection, especially when there is no reason that with the space available on a Blu-ray disc that Sony couldn’t have put the material on the DVD itself. I can’t express enough how much of a HUGE disappointment this is. It is so serious to me, that if purchasing the DVD and I knew this in advance, I simply wouldn’t purchase it. I realize that for many, maybe even most, this won’t be an issue, but for others like me, it is. Now none of this takes away from the quality of the program, but as long as a Blu-ray DVD costs a little more than a standard or regular DVD, especially for an entire season, this is an issue. I was able to track down some of the special features online and there are some great interviews, but the inconvenience of doing so was a pain. Because of the pain involved, I can’t recommend purchasing the Blu-ray version. I can recommend either purchasing the standard DVD if the special features are included or watching it via streaming on your favorite streaming outlet. When watching this season, ask yourself which representation of Christians is more authentic, that of Brother Sam or the Serial Killers on the show. Then ask yourself if you are a Christian, which one is more representative of how people see you and the rest of the Christian population. Now your comments are always welcome and it would be great to hear your response.
